The New York Rangers have Brennan Othmann waiting in the wings, in Hartford. He was asked about the opportunity he's had to serve in the Rangers lineup, and he looks forward to his next shot in the big league.
The New York Rangers looked like they were going to give Brennan Othmann a spot in the regular lineup after training camp.
However, he and fellow AHLer
Brett Berard would be sent to the Hartford Wolfpack in order to gain more playing time on the ice.
He'd later be injured, and miss significant time this season. Othmann was asked about his short-stints in the NHL, and it sounds like he hasn't let the obstacles of this season get in the way of his dreams.
He's accepted that he'll have to work his way up into the Rangers lineup but has cherished every second he's gotten to put on a Blueshirt.
This season with the Wolfpack he's scored 20 points (12 G, 8 A) in 27 games with the Wolfpack.
The way he spoke of putting on the Rangers jersey is significant, it speaks to the penultimate desire of every AHL player on the ice.
To one day put on their team's jersey who drafted them, and make an impact in the big time.
While Othmann has to cope with the fact he'll remain in the AHL for now, come 2025-2026 there may be another chance for him to crack the lineup.
This season he only played 1 game for the Rangers, and they would unfortunately send him down to the AHL.
«I thought he had a good camp,» Laviolette said. «There were games where I thought he was noticeable. With regard to becoming a regular, just finding that consistency. I think when you are a young player, that consistency inside of your game is something that needs to be worked on. He came in great shape, that was good. He had some good moments, that was good too. The fact that he can play both sides is a positive.
«At the end of the day from a development standpoint I think going down there and taking on the minutes and playing more in every situation is going to help him to get back to this level. I think just finding that consistency inside of his game.»
All is not lost however as Peter Laviolette complimented his play and said he felt he needs to mature his game further with the Wolfpack.
His time may not have arrived just yet, but soon enough it will.
