New York Rangers emerge has top landing spot for former first-round pick and 40 goal scorer

The New York Rangers are doing their best to improve their chances this year, as they have been linked to Vancouver Canucks superstar Brock Boeser. Could GM Chris Drury land him, instead of J.T. Miller?
While the attempts to trade for center J.T. Miller seemed to have fallen through there's been no update on that situation.
But it's been reported that Canucks forward Brock Boeser has been linked to the New York Rangers ahead of the trade deadline.
Boeser is another top-six forward who is set to be a UFA in July, which is an intriguing development considering all of the news coming out of Vancouver lately.
According to ESPN, the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres could be trade partners for Vancouver, although the former could only make a deal happen if the long-awaited J.T. Miller deal doesn't come to fruition.
Boeser has been linked to the Rangers by ESPN and could be a huge upgrade on the right for the Rangers.
Right now, in that spot is Alexis Lafreniere, and despite his improvement last season, it seems he's had a regression once again.
Boeser could shore up the top-line, and give the team some consistent firepower this season.
He's played 39 games for the Canucks, and scored 29 points (15 G, 14 A)
Last season he scored 73 points in a career year, which saw him post 40 goals for the Canucks.
However, this season could end up being different as he's on pace for 60 which is still quite well for a forward of his stature who has never scored above 50 points until last year.
Mike Fink of The Hockey Writers believes that if he was traded to the Islanders, they could make a one-for-one trade for Noah Dobson. Which leads me to believe the Canucks could target Braden Schneider still.
But you'd think there'd have to be another player, pick or prospect attached going back for Boeser.
Another intriguing part of the deal could be a blueliner. Yes, the Canucks would want Noah Dobson, the Islanders' best two-way defenseman, but they don't need him with Hughes playing at a high level. Alexander Romanov, meanwhile, makes more sense. He's a stay-at-home defenseman, and with Filip Hronek out of the lineup, the Canucks could use him on their top pair. Romanov would fit in well once Hronek returns and could be part of a one-for-one trade with Boeser.
Either way, it's difficult to tell what will happen as his $6.65 million AAV deal comes to an end.
Instead of extending him, they could simply trade him as a rental considering how injury-prone he's been.
If I were GM Chris Drury I'd pick up the phone right away.
