It appears that a blockbuster trade may be brewing between the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers as general manager Chris Drury continues to express the want change to his core players.

Arthur Staple who is a National Hockey League reporter indicates that Drury has contacted Canucks general manager Patrik Alvin In an effort to inquire what it will take for the Rangers to bring home their 2011 first round draft pick JT Miller.

A league source said the Rangers recently inquired with the Canucks about J.T. Miller, who is currently on an indefinite leave of absence. Miller was a 2011 first-round pick by the Rangers and has been coveted by Drury before - the Rangers were after Miller before the 2021-22 trade deadline but wouldn't include Braden Schneider in a deal. Miller then signed a seven-year extension worth $8-million a year, pulling him off the market.

Earlier last week, the Rangers shook the NHL with the knowledge that both star Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba were available for trade as the team continued to struggle.

After several losses and an appearance of a lack of effort between many of the teammates according to head coach Peter Laviolette.

It remains to be seen on who would head back to the Canucks in exchange for Miller as all players mentioned would have major salaries involved that would complicate trade negotiations with the salary cap.

There is also the factor of Miller being on indefinite leave with the Canucks and hockey as a whole as he hasnt played a game since early November.

Trouba has been on the trade block since the summer and many feel that he will not remain with the Rangers once his contract comes to an end two seasons from now.

Sending him to the Canucks would give them cost certainty for at least two seasons and the Rangers would get absolute cost certainty with Miller as he is only in his second season of his seven-year deal worth $8,000,000 per season.

It's likely the Canucks would ask for a prospect or two or a high draft pick to go with the trade as this is the tendency with Alvin and Canucks president Jim Rutherford.

Rangers fans and Canucks fans will wait see if anything will transpire between now and the March trade deadline, but it would send shockwaves through the league if they were able to make a major mid season trade of this magnitude.
