Don Cherry issues shocking statement on the five year anniversary oh his firing from HNIC
It has now officially been five years since Don Cherry was fired from Hockey Night in Canada due to his controversial take on the Poppy.'
Five years after his departure from Hockey Night in Canada, Don Cherry hasn't changed one bit and has released a statement to his fan.
Recently Cherry issued a message to the hockey fans of Canada, stating that Canadians need to do more to appreciate the sacrifices that were made by the veterans who fought and defended for the freedom of the country of Canada.
"I don't see any change," said Cherry with sadness in his voice. "You go downtown you don't see any poppies."
Back in 2019, was when Don Cherry would part ways with Coach's Corner' after he went on about his controversial plea about Canadians needing to wear poppies to acknowledge the importance of Remembrance Day.
Now, half a decade or so later, Cherry reveals he has no regrets about what was said about the poppy and still won't apologize for it either.
"I have no regrets about the poppy," answered Cherry when asked about whether or not he had any regrets.
However, he does admit to missing the guys who are on the the panel today and how his exit from the panel was handled, as he believes he still could have had a few more good year before leaving.
"I have regrets when I see the guys on television and I think of the fun I could have had," said Cherry. "I could have gone on for another couple of years, but it was time to go."
And now, in Cherry's recent post he is calling on Canadiens to support the cause of Rememberande Day and to truly appreciate the men and women who fought to protect the freedom of Canadiens.
"Wear one and give twenty bucks," said Cherry. "That's what I give all the time and I grab a handful."
