Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam pay Tribute to Johnny Gaudreau in Philadelphia
The beauty of the hockey community has been on display as fans across the spectrum have come together in the wake of this senseless tragedy. It's been well over a week since Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau have passed away, but tributes continue to multiply.
The trend continued into the weekend as grunge band, Pearl Jam would make a beautiful tribute for the Gaudreau brothers during their concert at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder would take some time to honor Johnny and Matthew and would give the audience a story about another tragedy the band experienced. Vedder himself lost his brother 5 years ago.
So this news hit close to home for Vedder himself.
"This tragic accident that happened with the Gaudreau brothers and I just wanted to say that I lost my brother 5 years ago in something that was immediate and tragic... and Chris told me what made it even more tragic was that they were such good men," said Vedder.
"So hearing that they came from Philly and grew up watching the games in this city, we thought we would recognize them and wish their families, loved ones and teammates the strength to get through. It's a difficult time."
Vedder dedicated a song to the brothers:
"This one is for Johnny and Matt."
Vedder would later walk out on stage with the jerseys of both brothers in hand, raising them in honor of both Gaudreau's taken too soon from us all.
The gesture itself was a classy move from Vedder and Pearl Jam, as the tragedy strikes deep for the singer who lost his brother years ago.
