Some devastating news strikes the hockey community as a former collage hockey player has sadly passed away at 33-years old.

It's always hard to report when a young person passes away due to an illness they have battling for such a long time, and in this case a young person has lost the battle to cancer.
According to a recent report from Hockey World Wide on Instagram, former NCAA hockey player Chad Demers has sadly passed away after a six-year battle with cancer at 33-years old.

Chad was so much more than a coach for us, Augustana head coach Garrett Raboin said. He was a brother, a husband, a father. Those are the things that were most important to him. He just cherished his wife and kids. That's what makes this so hard.

It was said Demers was diagnosed with cancer back in 2018, but he remained working in the hockey community while fighting this terrible illness.
Chad Demers was recently an assistant coach of Augustana University, which is considered to be a division one school. Demers held this position late into the summer of 2023.
Truly a devastating loss, as the hockey community has lost such a beloved figure.
Chad was one of my best friends for over 30 years, childhood friend Kody Stark said. Through all of his struggles the past six years, he still always asked me how I was doing, how my family was. It was never about him. Everything was for the people he loved. You won't find one teammate, player he coached - or coach he coached with - that wouldn't say he was the smartest hockey mind in the room, even with his illness. He was the greatest Spoiler of all-time. I'll remember him always

On behalf of everyone here at NY Rangers insider, we truly send our deepest condolences to Demers family and friends during this difficult time and hope they find peace in this tragic time.
