Former 14-year NHL veteran Thomas Greiss who has played for several teams such as the New York Islanders, Detroit Red Wings, and many others, will officially return to professional hockey.

Greiss had retired from the NHL on July 12, 2023, after 14 seasons. However after the goaltenders of Lowen Frankfurt of the DEL, Jussi Olkinuora and Cody Brenner, were injured the organization reached out to Greiss to see if he would come out of retirement.
Ultimately, Greiss agreed and will now return to professional hockey. Daniel Heinrizi the sporting director for Lowen Frankfurt, has released a statement regarding the situation:
Please not, these quotes were translated from German to English.
"We made contact with Thomas yesterday, Tuesday, and he immediately agreed to support us in this challenging situation. He will be with us for the time when Cody and Jussi are not available, and will bring his many years of experience and qualities as a top goalkeeper. In the current situation, this is the ideal solution for us, as he is not entitled to a contract until the end of the season. This was always an understandable request with the other personnel options that were available to us at short notice. We are pleased that Thomas is coming to us tomorrow and will be available for the next game weekend," Heinrizi said.

Greiss also spoke out on his return to professional hockey, and stated that he is excited to help the team overcome this tough time. He's also excited to reunite with some of his old friends who have been in the league for a while now.
"I would like to thank the Lions that everything worked out so quickly and I hope I can be of help to the team for the few games. I am looking forward to seeing some old friends again and to being able to experience the great atmosphere in the German ice rinks again," Greiss said.

As a New York Rangers fan, were you ever a fan of Thomas Greiss when he was with the Islanders?
