Gary Bettman's recent multi-million dollar loss affects multiple teams throughout the league
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has a terrible track record of signing contracts that don't benefit the league, and he's now signed a new deal that almost cost the league millions.
In the past few years It seems that Gary Bettman has been signing all types of contracts, whether it be jerseys or TV deals that aren't a good fit for the league itself.
Such as Fanatics who have reputation for making a lot of quality errors with their merchandise and still managed to become the officer on ice jersey the NHL.
However, the poor decisions don't stop there as the NHL and NBA just signed new broadcasting deals with Diamond Sports Group, the company that owns Bally Sports.
After the NHL signed this deal DSV appears to be heading towards bankruptcy and will have a hearing on September 3rd to get an update on the situation.
The Diamond Sports Group will have the rights to 9 different NHL even as it goes through the bankruptcy process.
Those 9 teams being, the Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning.
The CEO of Diamond Sports Group has released a statement about the situation:
«We are appreciative of the ongoing collaboration and long-term partnerships with the NBA and NHL, David Preschlack, Diamond's CEO, said in a statement. These new agreements that cover NBA and NHL linear and (direct-to-consumer) rights are another major milestone and continue Diamond's momentum toward emergence, which will enable us to provide value for our NBA and NHL partners and continue to serve dedicated local NBA, NHL and MLB fans.»
Definitely not a good look for the NHL and Gary Bettman.
