New York Rangers: Five NHL teams are currently exceeding the Salary Cap
Recent reports confirm 5 NHL teams have exceeded the salary cap, one team is $14 million over!
These 5 teams include the Washington Capitals, Vegas Golden Knights, Colorado Avalanche, Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers.
Good news is these five teams still have a bit of time to be cap-compliant before the 2024-25 season and can be 10% over the projected salary cap.
Unfortunately the Washington Capitals find themselves is the worst situation amongst the other teams.
The Capitals current cap situation has them coming in at $103 million, which is $14 million above the projected $88 million cap limit for the 2024-25 season.
Some decent news for the Capitals,
Nicklas Backstrom is expected to go back in LTIR before the start of the season, which saves the team roughly $9.2 million and leaves them with approximately $5 million to clear up.
With that being said,
T.J. Oshie may be facing a serious injury that could potentially lead to his retirement or even enter LTIR, and would also save the Capitals another $5.75 million.
