Several reports have just confirmed that the New York Rangers and the Seattle Kraken have completed a trade for Rangers former first-round pick Kaapo Kakko.
In return for this trade the New York Rangers will receive Kraken's defenseman Will Borgen, a 2025 3rd round pick, and 2025 6th.
Full breakdown from NHL insider, Elliotte Friedman:
For weeks the New York Rangers have been looking to shake up their roster and now they officially have. During this time several Rangers players names were involved in trade speculation such as veterans, Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Kaapo Kakko.
Along with these reports several Rangers reporters have confirmed that this trade was not a reaction from the Rangers after Kakko's comments towards the team before Tuesday nights game against the Nashville Predators.
The Rangers have been interested in Will Borgen for a while now and now they have officially figured out a way to acquire him, as they are not ready to commit long-term to Kakko.
Will Borgen is a 27-year old defenseman who hasn't put up much points over the years as he is currently sitting with 1G and 1A through 33 games this season. During last season he played all 82 games with the Kraken and managed to put up 3G and 22A for a total of 25 points.
However, Bogen is a gritty defenseman and his know for laying the body as he registered 203 hits in 2022-23 and 195 hits in 2023-24, and he ranks 12th among NHL defensemen in hits since the start of the 2022-23 season.
