Now it appears they may be out a future goalie prospect, as well.
Alexei Kolosov was thought to be one of the best KHL goalies set to come over to the Flyers and make an impact in the AHL, and eventually be one of the top goalies in the franchise.
He briefly came over in April 2024 near the end of the season, and was assigned to Lehigh Valley.
Kolosov was drafted 78th overall in the 3rd round of the 2021 NHL Draft and played two games in Lehigh Valley before heading back home. This led to rumors that Kolosov is trying to get out of his NHL contract with the Flyers.
While nothing has been confirmed, there are rumors that Kolosov has asked his KHL club, Dynamo Minsk to assist in terminating his NHL contract.
This was reported by Ivan Bogun of Sport-express.ru hockey:
NBC's Jordan Hall who covers the Flyers mentioned that the goalie has been homesick and the team hopes he'll return to America in time for training camp.
But nothing is confirmed.
If the Flyers lose Alexei Kolosov to the KHL, this may signify an issue with the organization. Since losing Cutter Gauthier, whatever issue is causing the relationship strain with the Flyers should be examined, and Patrick Sharp needs to step in.
While the Flyers' prospect pool is deeper than most in the NHL, losing two prospects in a short period of time is a structural issue.
We pray for the Flyers downfall, daily.
