Lat night, New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury got ahead of the 8-ball, acquiring defenceman Carson Soucy from the Vancouver Canucks. While fans and analysts believed Soucy's acquisition was strictly a rental, GM Chris Drury hints at other plans.

Yesterday, Carson Soucy was traded to the New York Rangers by the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday for a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft (previously owned by the San Jose Sharks).
The Rangers had received the third-round pick from the Vegas Golden Knights earlier on Thursday in the trade for forward Reilly Smith.
With that being said, Chris Drury appears to be doing everything in his power to shore up his blue-line for a postseason push.
Initially, fans applauded Drury for striking such a formidable "rental". But new reports indicate that Carson Soucy will likely remain a Ranger for the foreseeable future.

Carson Soucy not a rental

Following the acquisition, Drury made himself available to the media, highlighting his longterm plans for the big defender.
"We think there's a lot of possibilities with Carson, whether it's (pairing) with Schneids or Foxy or Will (Borgen), or even having him on the right side at some point. We'll see how it plays out. I'm glad we were able to get him. I was excited about the term, excited about the number. He's not a rental. He's someone we could have in for the rest of the year and next year. I just like the overall game - the size, the skating, the sense, how he defends. We were able to do some homework on him the last couple weeks and we're excited to get him with a piece we got in the Reilly Smith trade."

Well folks, Drury's comments are as black and white as it gets. Soucy is not a rental.
While fans are still unsure where Soucy will fit in the lineup, Drury seems intended on keeping him around.
It should be interesting to see how to see how the Viking, Alta, product performs in the Big Apple in the coming days.
