The New York Rangers have made a huge move, sending former Stanley Cup champion Nicolas Aube-Kubel to the AHL. This is only after acquiring him during the trade deadline.

The New York Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres made a trade on March 7th which saw them acquire former Stanley Cup champion, Nicolas Aube-Kubel.
Kubel won a Stanley Cup in 2022 with the Colorado Avalanche and produced 22 points (11 G, 11 A) in 67 games during that run for the team.
Aube-Kubel, 28, has played in 19 games for the Sabres this season, registering two points (1G-1A). With the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL), he has posted eight points (4G-4A) in 12 games and a plus-3 rating.

He'd provide a solid bottom-six presence for Jared Bednar and the Avalanche and has since bounced around the league afterward.
Aube-Kubel would move on to the Toronto Maple Leafs next season, followed by a stint with the Washington Capitals, and Buffalo Sabres afterward.
He hasn't been able to crack an NHL lineup full-time since 2022-2023 and now will find himself yet again jumping between the AHL and NHL.
Kubel only played 19 games for the Sabres this season, scoring 2 points (1 G, 1 A), and wouldn't be afforded an opportunity by Lindy Ruff to prove himself worthy of a spot in the lineup.
Now, in New York, he'll have to work himself up the depth chart in Hartford.
Aube-Kubel more or less could be a rental for the Rangers, as it is doubtful whether or not he'll see the Rangers lineup at all.
The team is loaded at the moment will talent up and down the lineup, and even after parting ways with Jimmy Vesey have plenty of prospects who deserve ice time, Juuso Parssinen will likely get a long look in the lineup before Aube-Kubel ever does.
For now, the Rangers will eat his $1.5 million salary, and bury it in the AHL with the Wolfpack.
Will they end up re-signing the former Stanley Cup champion, or let him walk in free agency?
