The Russian goaltender has had a fantastic five seasons with the Rangers along with winning a Vezina trophy and almost taking the team to the Stanley Cup finals.
Last season was particularly interesting for Shesterkin as he had a rollercoaster year with a terrible December and January to turn things around quickly after the All-Star break and went on this amazing run down the stretch an into the playoffs.
Many pundits across the league have speculated on what Shesterkin will receive for his new contract as it's expected the Rangers will give him the full eight years the number remains in question.
It's likely he will be above 8.5 million per season and be in the same range as Connor Hellebuyck and Sergei Bobrovsky. It's even been suggested that he could seek a 12,000,000 per season level of contract setting the new bar for all elite goaltenders moving forward.
It's likely the Rangers will attempt to lower the number as they wish to maintain some cost certainty and cost flexibility as that I over $12 million for one player can cause trouble in the salary cap era. It also depends on how long these negotiations will go on for as most players would like to have them completed prior to the season beginning but it's unlikely to happen.
