It's confirmed: Martin Necas' future with the New York Rangers revealed
It was reported by TSN that Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas will remain with the Hurricanes as both sides how working towards a deal.
Rumors and stories have been reported for the past several weeks that Necas will be leaving Carolina due to their contract dispute. The narrative began to change when former general manager Don Waddell had left the organization to join the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Newly appointed general manager Eric Tulsky feels that a deal can be accomplished between now and the beginning of training camp.
"It is a lot easier to make trades before July 1 when teams have flexibility to go pivot and sign other players to replace whatever they gave up than it is after July 1 when their roster is mostly built," Tulsky said, per NHL.com. "We are continuing to talk to teams, and we don't want to miss an opportunity to make the team better, but teams have less flexibility now than they had in June, so it's harder to find a deal now than it was then."
Both parties will be heading to arbitration, with Tulsky reporting that the Hurricanes are willing to make a one year deal all the way up to an 8-year contract extension.
Since the Hurricanes have severed ties with Evgeny Kuznetsov, The Hurricanes have $14 million of cap space. This allows the team to negotiate a much better deal for Necas as he has been a key component to their success.
Many felt the Rangers would be a team that would be heavily favoured to try to trade for Necas as the team continues to look for reinforcements on their forward lines.
As many say anything is possible and there's still plenty of summer left to see if anything could change between now and training camp but for now it appears that Necas will likely stay in Raleigh NC.
