The New York Rangers are without defenseman Urho Vaakainen, and in his absence Zac Jones has stepped up. His performance against the Boston Bruins brought a heap of praise from Peter Laviolette.

Zac Jones had the misfortune of being scratched for 18 games in a row by the New York Rangers.
Now with Urho Vaakainen's absence, he may have found his way back into Laviolette's favor.
Jones had been out of the lineup since December 23rd and made sure to show up against the Bruins.
He had been paired with Braden Schneider last night, and the duo looked like the bottom-pairing at the beginning of the season we were excited for.
Jones and Schneider provided a solid showing, with two shots on goal, two blocks, and three hits.
The young defenseman's performance last night could prove to be pivotal for the long-term health of the Rangers.
He's an RFA and $812K contract expires at the end of the season.
GM Chris Drury and the team could find a way to tender a qualifying offer to retain his rights. He could remain a Blueshirt, the cost for Drury would be $866K but they could deal him in a trade too.
Nothing has materialized on that front, even after the team had given him permission to do so.
His performance against the Bruins could put eyes on Jones for a possible deal in March, or when he could possibly walk into free agency.
The trades this year are sporadic, so we don't know what to expect.
But we think he should get more ice time after last night.
