As soon as the puck dropped, the Rangers were not ready in which the capitals overran the team for most of the game and controlled the play. As the game continued to unravel, head coach Peter laviolette decided to activate Rempe so he could neutralize either Tom Wilson or Dylan Mcllrath. Within 3 minutes of the first period, Rempe chose to fight Mcllrath and the end result was not what he had hoped for.
After losing another fight, the Rangers have a decision to make. Many pundits and NHL fans feel that he may not be able to maintain a roster spot with the Rangers and after his disastrous weekend with the Wolfpack and was a - 3 it's becoming clear that the Rangers may not be able to hang onto him at all.
During the Capitals game he only played 5 minutes of ice time and 8 shifts total. Those numbers are not flattering and certainly do not warrant the team carrying a roster spot for such little production. Through three games of play he has no points.
Rempe burst onto the scene of the NHL late last year and with his energy and his fights he gained the love of the fan base and his teammates. But shortly after a few weeks, it began to wane as his fights began to look dangerous as he kept losing every single one. This led him to spend the offseason with several players including former NHL heavyweight Georges Laraque along with Chris Kreider and Jonathan Quick.
It remains to be seen on how the Rangers will handle this situation and if he will head back to Hartford but in the meantime it's likely he will be in the press box for the foreseeable future.
