After a poor season with the Vegas Golden Knights, the Rangers took a chance on Quick with hopes that a change of scenery would help the netminder find his game again.
This was certainly the case last year as he compiled and 18-6-2 record while holding 2.6 two goals against and a .911 save percentage. He was particularly important when Rangers superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin's game fell off and needed quick to stabilize the net and potentially saved the season. Shesterkin manage to find his game after the All-Star break and retook the starting role.
After Quick's superb season along with becoming the most winning American goalie in NHL history, general manager Chris Drury managed to sign him to a one year $1.27 million extension. Some pundits felt that Quick may hang up his skates and call it a career, but it seems he has some gas left in the tank.
The Rangers do have a couple of goaltenders in the pipeline including Dylan Garand who was chosen in 2020 as a fourth-round draft pick and veteran goaltender Louis Domingue who is currently playing for the Hartford Wolfpack and has played for seven NHL organizations.
In the end, I feel that the Rangers have the best tandem in the NHL especially since the Boston Bruins have broken up their tandem of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. It remains to be seen on how Quick will handle another NHL season.
