The Anaheim Ducks surprised us all when they completed the trade for Jacob Troubasending Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 Fourth-Round pick in return. There was speculation that Trouba would be traded, but now the Ducks have other plans with him involving leadership responsibilities.

According to NHL Insider Nick Kypreos, the Anaheim Ducks view Jacob Trouba, a former Mark Messier Leadership Award winner, as an anchor for their team.

His leadership experience has earned him another chance at a spot to lead a rebuilding team with the Ducks. They have recently added Leo Carlsson, Mason McTavish, Olen Zellweger, and other prospects into the fold.

It's sounding highly unlikely that the Ducks will flip Jacob Trouba at the deadline after acquiring him from the Rangers. Apparently, a lot of work went into convincing Trouba that he'll be a big part of their rebuild and also provide wonderful opportunities for his wife in the medical field after completing her residency.

While Trouba remains on the same contract as he was with the New York Rangers, a $8 Million AAV deal, the Ducks are working on an extension with the defenseman.

This year he's only scored 6 points in 26 games with the blue shirts this season.

A fresh start in Anaheim could be what the defenseman needs and has already found a home with fellow veteran Cam Fowler.

During the game against the Montreal Canadiens' he handed out five hits that night and provided physical space on the ice, a growing team like the Ducks need.

While Trouba had a sordid end to his career with the New York Rangers this season, he will fly high with the Ducks and provide leadership, and physicality.
