The New York Rangers are in the market for defensemen. With Jacob Trouba being traded from the Rangers, the team could reach deep in their pockets for the trade deadline, or claim Boston Bruins defenseman,Alec Regula.

The Boston Bruins waived Alec Regula who has been on the injured reserve since October 7th, 2024. Regula had undergone knee surgery during the offseason and had been recovering until activated today, and was promptly placed on waivers by Don Sweeney.

This could be a low-risk, high-reward situation for GM Chris Drury as Regula makes a league minimum salary of $775K and could prove to fill in the gaps if injuries occur.

The former Blackhawks defenseman was drafted 67th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.

Regula has seen short stints in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks, playing only 22 games in the NHL with 1 point ( 1 A).

Yet he's found himself at home with the Providence Bruins where he played the majority of the 2023-2024 season scoring 26 points( 4 G, 22 A).

While there have been no rumors that other NHL teams are interested in the depth defenseman, he could prove to be a great addition in Hartford.

#NHLBruins defenseman Alec Regula was injured for some time over the offseason and into this regular season.
Now that he's healthy to return to playing he must go through the waiver process much like so many did before the season started to be assigned to Providence.

The Bruins acquired Alec Regula from the Chicago Blackhawks, along with Ian Mitchell in return for Nick Foligno, and Taylor Hall.

He hasn't cracked a regular NHL lineup during his entire playing career and has been a career AHLer.

Despite being a career minor-league he has had glowing reviews from Bruins writer Dominic Tiano who runs the Dom.Hockey Podcast.

I'm asked whether I think he's earned a look with the big club and my answer is that the Bruins aren't in the cap position to just give players a look. It's going to have to be as an injury replacement and then that depends on who the injury is too. If Brandon Carlo were to go down then yes, I could see Regula getting a call as the shutdown guy who can kill penalties. If it's Charlie McAvoy that goes down, then I doubt Regula would be the first name to come to mind.

Should the New York Rangers claim Alec Regula?
