The New York Rangers and GM Chris Drury have decided the next best step for Zac Jones' career, is to demote him again. Peter Laviolette felt it was best for him to get some minutes in Hartford.
Zac Jones hasn't played hockey in Hartford for over two seasons, and now the Rangers have demoted him.
The reasoning the Rangers are using is that it's a conditioning stint for the defenseman.
Rather than giving him another shot in the NHL by trading him, they feel like giving him more minutes by making him work up the depth chart is the smart way of keeping him happy, and passive.
«It's a good opportunity for him to go down and get some minutes.»
Jones has only played 28 games for the Rangers this season and has found himself sitting on the bench, as the team's 7th defenseman.
Without a trade in the future, it looks like his career has bottomed out in the league, as he'll have to gain Laviolette's trust.
He lost it early in the season when Victor Mancini took his spot in the lineup, and has been unable to crack it again once
Urho Vaakanainen was acquired.
Jones has been scratched a total of 18 games for the Rangers, and it was for a significant amount of time, from December 18th to February 2nd.
«It's tough. It's really [expletive] tough,» he said. «I mean, I'm just generally a pretty easygoing, happy person. And no matter what is going on in my life, I'm gonna try and come to the rink with a smile on my face . . . But it [expletive] sucks. Like, there's nothing else I can say about it.»
