Rangers defenseman encourages the New York Rangers organization to pay Igor Shesterkin

Igor Shesterkin started the 2024-2025 NHL season with news of the goalie turning down an $88 Million deal with the Rangers.

This caused a stir in the media, as who in their right mind would turn down such a rich contract? Agent Maxim Moliver and Shesterkin did.

The contract would've made him the highest-paid goalie in the NHL, above legendary Habs goalie Carey Price at $10.5 Million.

But, the tensions remain as the Rangers and Shesterkin haven't settled on the right price yet. As we can speculate Shesterkin wants to be paid more than even Artemi Panarin.

Defenseman Zac Jones, who is currently 6th defenseman on a rotating basis with the Rangers knows, and appreciates Shesterkin's value.

«I think the basis of all of this if if Igor Shesterkin wants $12 million,» the source said to rg.org. «If Igor Shesterkin wants $12.5 million, he's going to get it.»

He's stressed recently that the Rangers goalie is worth every penny, and GM Drury should sign him now.

Backstopping now 116 saves over the last 3 games, Shesterkin once again played a game that proved he is worthy of the money. It's not just about the number of saves, but the difficulty. Teams are racking up scoring chances lately, coincidentally lining up around the time Ryan Lindgren came back and Zac Jones started to sit regularly. But that's a conversation for another day, and has more to do with Jones than Lindgren.

It's hard to argue with how reliable of a netminder Shesterkin is, he's backstopped the Rangers to the playoffs consecutively.

Shesterkin is an elite goalie in the NHL despite the naysayers, I mean they've said the same things about Henrik Lundqvist too.

It's about the team in front too.

Shesterkin can only do so much for the Rangers but gives his all every game.
