Earlier this month, New York Rangers starting goaltender and pending unrestricted free agent Igor Shesterkin's turned down an $88 million dollar extension offer, with an $11 million AAV.
Since Shesterkin turned downed that offer, rumours have started to circulate that Shesterkin and his camp want at least $12 million annually.
However, new reports have surfaced from Jim Biringer of rg.org, the News York Rangers star goaltender's asking price is going up and could now potentially be at the $12.5 million dollar mark.
Another quote from Biringer's source, who also stated the following:
The only reason the two-time All-Star goaltender wants between 13-15% of the team's salary cap, is because other NHL superstars are signing for roughly the same thing. Such as Leon Draisaitl with the Edmonton Oilers as he signed a 8-year contract that carries an average annual value of $14 million a year.
Along with that, Carey Price set the standard for goalies back in 2017, with his $10.5 million AAV the was worth 13.21% of the teams cap when it started on 2018-19. So at that exact percentage, and an upcoming salary cap of $92 million, Shesterkin would be getting $12.153 million AAV.
Shesterkin has been on fire this year as he already has a record of 4-1-1 and a .926 save percentage and a 2.16 goals-against average.
