Canucks captain Quinn Hughes started the night early as he scored 34 seconds into the first period, setting a tone for what the night would be.
Despite that the New York Rangers managed to recover just as quickly, as Mika Zibanejad got one back within the first three minutes.
Throughout the first period, the Rangers truly dominated possession time and played with more structure as everyone was involved in the plays.
With doing so, the Rangers offensive pressure led to two goals in the first period, one being from Zibanejad and the other by Will Cuylle.
Another player who really stood out in this game was forward Kaapo Kakko. As he managed to score a goal in the second period while recorded two points this game.
The overall aggression the New York Rangers were playing with generated some great offensive opportunities which ultimately led to multiple scoring chances.
However, I think many would agree that it was in the third period when the Rangers played their best.
As veteran forward Chris Kreider managed to gain the 4-3 lead for the Rangers, it was time to shut down the Canucks and hold onto the lead.
Which is exactly what they did, the Rangers completely shutdown the Canucks and played some of their best defensive games this season.
So the three major takeaways from this close 4-3 victory over the Canucks, would be the New York Rangers possession, aggression, and defensive play.
All three factors that ultimately led to the team pulling off this glorious victory.
