Trade talks intensify between the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings regarding this defenseman
Trade talks between the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings seem to be intensifying, after NHL Insider Frank Seravalli revealed that Rangers defenseman is gaining some interest.
According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli the New York Rangers "warrior" defenseman Ryan Lindgren's name is buzzing in reports. The defenseman is now linked to the original six Detroit Red Wings in trade talks .
In news that should surprise no one, the New York Rangers and GM Chris Drury are working the phones to improve the team.
As a result, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceOff has linked defenseman Ryan Lindgren to the Detroit Red Wings in the latest rumors.
Considering the lack of depth in the Red Wings defensive ranks, Lindgren could be considered an upgrade by some.
As they've been "bolstered" by players like Ben Chiarot, Justin Holl, Erik Gustafsson, and Albert Johansson they desperately need help on the blue line.
«I wonder about Detroit. Is he that big of an upgrade, though? That's the question I'd have to ask,» Seravalli said. «And I don't know how big the Red Wings are gonna spend»
While nothing is set in stone, a decision is sooner to be made by the time playoffs roll around.
If the team misses a playoff berth, the Rangers could be buyers and sellers at the trade deadline this season.
If the Rangers miss the playoffs in 2025, it'll be the first time in over 35 years since the team has missed a shot at competing for the Stanley Cup.
Lindgren was signed to a one-year, $4.5 Million AAV "prove-it" deal by the New York Rangers and has failed to live up to expectations this season on the Rangers top-pairing.
Arthur Staple of The Athletic has discussed the Rangers sending Lindgren to Tampa Bay nearly three weeks ago.
"Perhaps Drury will hold onto Lindgren and make a move closer to March 7 to maximize the return, but it certainly appears that the 26-year-old is nearing the end of his Rangers tenure...the broken jaw... (and) the team's ever-worsening defense have combined to make Lindgren a shadow of what he was as a Ranger."
It looks as if there could be other suitors in the mix, and one of them is the Detroit Red Wings.
Lindgren has played 39 games for the Rangers this season, and scored only 10 points ( 2 G, 8 A ) with 24 PIMs.
