The New York Rangers, if lucky could find drafting a top defense prospect in the 2024 draft could happen in the first round.
But that is dependent upon variables, which means nothing is certain for the Blueshirts.
All the while, should the Rangers miss out on
Cole Hutson, or Carter Yaremchuk, there remains another tough-nosed defenseman available in the first round.
At 6'2" 201 pounds, the Rangers could select the hard-nosed
Stian Solberg who made a great showing at the IIHF World Championships, with Team Norge. He's already had professional experience, playing 71 games, with Valerenga in 2021-2022, and 2023-2024.
For the 2024-2025 season, he will suit up in SHL with Farjestad BK, and while points aren't necessarily the defining point of a defenseman, he has an edge where it's needed in physical play.
He also has some offensive upside, posting 15 points in 42 games, while posting two goals and 9 points in Norway's professional league.
He would be a great addition to the Rangers blueline in the future.
He's projected to go from 11th to 20th, which is why we're writing this piece. He has the skills and capabilities that would benefit the Rangers, as he plays a heavy game, has excellent skating skills, and is capable of creating space on the ice.
He's a solid two-way defenseman, who could see play on North American ice, in 2026-2027.
