At the beginning of the National Hockey League season a few players will officially confirm their retirement and this time it's 32-year old, Riley Sheahan. However, despite only being 32, Sheahan spent 12-years throughout the NHL before moving onto his next journey.
Riley Sheahan was originally drafted 21st overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings. After he was drafted he spent two seasons playing in the NCAA with the University of Notre Dame hockey club. Sheahan later played 7 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings organization before joining the Pittsburgh Penguins. It has been reported that Riley Sheahan was considered a good role model amongst the locker room and was a player who excelled in offensive and defensive checking.
Sheahan's first ever season with the Pittsburgh Penguins would be his best throughout his 12-years in the league as he managed to tally 32 points in 73 games played. After spending two years with the Pens, Sheahan bounced around the league for the remainder of his NHL career, with the Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Seattle Kraken, and then finishing his career with the Buffalo Sabres.
Overall in his career, Sheahan played 637 games and put up 194 points. As of now, there is no reports on what his next adventure will be after announcing his retirement. However as Riley Sheahan enters this next phase of his life, everyone here at NY Rangers Insider wish him nothing but the best.
