He has taken on a new role in the organization, as part of hockey operations for the Flyers.
He previously inked a one-day deal with the Flyers to retire as a Flyer and has transitioned to a front-office position right away.
The winger known for his gritty style, and scoring touch early in his career, will be a hockey operations consultant, and community relations ambassador for the Flyers. He will hold a dual role to ensure the team's success on and off the ice.
This will be Simmond's first front-office role in the NHL, at age 36 played last in Toronto during the 2022-2023 season, playing 18 games. He'd eventually walk into free agency and wouldn't sign with the Flyers for one day in 2023-2024 retiring.
Now he'll help lead the Flyers into success in the front office, working with Daniel Briere and Keith Jones.
Other NHL players have begun their front office jobs through this path, as Alexander Steen accepted a position with the St. Louis Blues within the same path. But it looks as if Steen could eventually be promoted to the GM position for the Blues in 2026, nothing confirmed yet of course.
Wayne Simmonds was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2007 and would play there for three seasons before he was traded to Philadelphia in 2011.
His time with the Flyers made him a fan favorite, playing a hard-hitting game, and he scored 378 points( 203 G, 175 A) in 584 games, and would accumulate 784 PIMs there as well.
Simmonds is the latest former Flyer to join the front officer, as former Flyer Reid Thompson joined the team as the director of European Pro Scouting, after spending years with the Montreal Canadiens organization.
