Mollie Walker Of the New York Post tweeted today that former Rangers head coach David Quinn was hired by the Rangers division rival the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He will be working alongside head coach Mike Sullivan as he has been named an assistant coach. Sullivan has tapped Quinn's shoulder to look after the defenseman and the power play.

Quinn has had experience throughout the NHL as he was head coach of the Rangers and the San Jose Sharks. But this hire is personal as he is close friends with Sullivan where they played together with Boston University and have striking similarities in the way they speak and even their look.

His tenure with the Rangers began in 2018 and only lasted three seasons where the Rangers made the playoffs only once. He also spent time on the US men's hockey team where he coached the 2022 Winter Olympics.

That remains to be seen on how he will affect the Pittsburgh power play as the team has been mired by question marks as many feel the Penguins are heading for a rebuild.

The Rangers reunited with their old coach as they faced off against the Penguins yesterday and beat them 6-0. The Rangers were dominant and made quick work of the Penguins which gives them a good start by taking the opening game.

The Rangers will be at home on Saturday October 12 to have their home opener when they face off against the Utah hockey club, game time will be 7:00 PM eastern.
