The National Hockey League is roughly two weeks in now and there has been a ton of highlights that have emerged, and it's safe to say many more will continue to emerge.
However, on Tuesday night, the Minnesota Wild faced off against their division rivals, the St. Louis Blues and took an impressive 4-1 victory with a goal coming from Filip Gustavsson.
With the end coming to an end, as there was only 11 seconds left of the third period, Gustavsson made a save and saw the perfect opportunity to fire the puck down the ice as the Blues had an empty net, and picked up the first ever goalie goal of the season. Gustavsson also becomes the 11th goalie since the year 2000, to score a goalie goal at the NHL level, making it the third straight season that we witness this after Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry got one a year ago and Linus Ullmark the year before.
Despite all that, Gustavsson had a pretty solid night in net, as he stopped 27 out of 28 shots on net, which ultimately led to his team to a 2-0-2 record to kickoff the 2024-25 season. Gustavsson now has a sub-two GAA on the season, as he only allowed five goals on 96 shots so far, leaving him and the Wild off to a great start to get back into the Stanley Cup playoff.
