New York Rangers divisional rivals made a tough decision and placed their veteran defenseman on waivers.

The Caroline Hurricanes have place defenseman Joakim Ryan on waivers because he has been on the injured non-roster list.

The 145-game NHL veteran will now have to wait and see if he clears waivers and join the Chicago Wolves or if he gets claimed by another team, which is very unlikely.

"The 31-year-old defenseman has been on the injured non-roster list due to a lower-body injury."

It was pointed out by a fan named Erin Manning, that Ryan could offer a veteran presence in the American Hockey League, especially for the Wolves:

"Joakim Ryan is one of those potential veterans the Wolves can play that I was referring to in a long thread this morning. Ryan has 144 games of AHL experience and 145 games of NHL experience. Provided he clears waivers he will be a good mentor for the "kids" in Chicago."

However, it truly is only a matter of time if the 31-year old defenseman will find a new organization in the NHL, or if he's placed with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL.

Regardless of where he lands, many fans wish him nothing but the best and just want to see him succeed. Along with everyone here at NY Rangers Insider as we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.
