Frightening scenes emerge from Philadelphia as NHL referee is stretchered off the ice

Terrifying news emerges from the Philadelphia Flyers game against the Colorado Avalanche as veteran NHL official Mitch Dunning has sustained a significant injury.

The NHL is known for a being dangerous sport for the everyone on the ice, including the referees who are involved in the game.

Unfortunately tonight, National Hockey League referee Mitch Dunning collided with defenseman Josh Manson from the Colorado Avalanche and instantly fell to the ice.

Medical personnel didn't waste any time and immediately took to the ice to treat Mitch Dunning, who remained on ice in very serious pain.

After being evaluated by the medical staff on the ice they quickly determined that the referee would need to be stretched off the ice.

Within just minutes, reports had surfaced stating that Mitch Dunnimg suffered a back injury and was being transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

Definitely a very scary injury to sustain, especially for a referee who no one expects to expects to take a brutal collision like this.

After Mitch Dunning was being stretchered off the ice, Josh Manson come over to check on him and gave him a tap to show his concern and support.

Dunning has also been surrounded by injuries his whole career even when he played hockey in the OHL, after his playing career was done he spoke out about the injuries he sustained.

«I ran into some injury trouble,» Mitch explains. «I had some issues with my right and left knees. I required two ACL reconstructions in three years. Which pretty much sealed the deal in terms of my professional hockey career! I was sidelined for an entire year.»

Dunning, then continued:

Well, I don't think many young hockey players envision themselves as an official,» Mitch laughs. «Obviously, you grow up viewing them as the guys that throw you in the penalty box. So, you never really think of yourself as following that route. But, for me, it was a very organic process. It's something I really took to. I really love it.»
