Hockey player, Mike Glemser of the Germany3 league has been paralyzed after a hit by Jan-Niklas Piestch which broke two vertebrae's.

Glemser was paralyzed from the neck down which led to him filing a civil lawsuit in the Germany's court system.
The hit happened back in February of 2023, when Glemser was playing for the Rosenheim Starbulls, and was checked into the boards by Piestch of Riessersee SC. It was reported that he didn't blame Piestch but would file lawsuit afterwards for $1 million USD.

You can watch the video below, to see the hit that paralyzed Glemser:

Glemser's lawyers want to hold Piestch responsible for the incident and hold him liable for all the damages that happened afterwards. However, Piestch's lawyers countered that argument by stating:
"A ruling in favor of Glemser could have an impact on other sports. Then, fouls in sports such as ice hockey, football or handball, which lead to punishments such as time penalties or expulsions during the games, could be interpreted as physical assault afterwards."

Ultimately, Mike Glemser will now be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his. After the incident fans and players came together to create a GoFundMe for Glemser, which raised close to $800,000 USD.
