Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau had died tragically after being struck by a drunk driver in rural Salem, NJ while riding their bikes. The tragedy happened at the end of August, and the hockey world has built solidarity around their passing.

The two brothers were fan favorites in New Jersey and were honored by tribute at the last New Jersey Devils game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The two played high school hockey in the area and would menace the opposing team on ice, and give other high schools a difficult time.
Their legacy will be remembered at the Prudential Center, as the NJSIAA High School Hockey Championships MVP award has been re-named in honor of Johnny and Matthew.
This demonstrates how important they were to the area culturally, and how well they played impacted so many others in New Jersey.
The two brothers will live on as the award will be given to those who both Gaudreau brothers were an inspiration to in New Jersey.
The New Jersey Devils and New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association have created the Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau MVP Award, the team announced before their home opener at Prudential Center on Thursday."

The award will be given out at the end of each tournament in March, in memory of the brothers.
Johnny and Matthew led Gloucester Catholic High School in Gloucester City, New Jersey, to its first-ever state championship in 2010. Matthew returned to coach Gloucester Catholic for the 2022-23 season after retiring from professional hockey.

While neither played for the Devils, the brothers were no strangers to Prudential Center, the site of the New Jersey State tournament where they won it all.

While the brothers never got the chance to suit up for the New Jersey Devils, the team and the area have never forgotten their impact, as Matthew continued the legacy coaching for Gloucester Catholic two years ago.
In this difficult time for the Gaudreau family, we send our condolences and lament Johnny and Matthew's loss to the sport of hockey, and the world.
The demonstration of goodwill, and sharing in this time period reminds us all, that we're better acting in a community to help each other out.
