Today some very unfortunate news was confirmed by the Columbus Blue Jackets that forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau sadly passed away.
The NHl stated Johnny 31, and brother 29, have both passed away and no other additional information was released.
There was tons of rumours that were surfacing last night on X that both Gaudreau and a family member had passed away after being hit on bicycles, but everyone was praying it was just a rumour. Sadly it was not.
The Columbus Blue Jackets released a statement:
«The Columbus Blue Jackets are shocked and devastated by the unimaginable tragedy,» the team said in a statement. «Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.»
Gary Bettman has also commented on the passing:
«Gaudreau often told the story of how his father taught him to skate as a child in his home state of New Jersey, and he carried that same youthful passion throughout his 11 NHL seasons,» Bettman said. «A skilled playmaker, Gaudreau participated in the NHL All-Star Game seven times where he was always a fan favorite, particularly while showcasing his talents in the various skills competitions for which he was so well suited.»
On behalf of everyone at NY Rangers insider we send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Gaudreau family as they navigate through is difficult time.
