The worst has been confirmed for Team USA's top defenseman Charlie McAvoy after he was admitted to the Mass. General Hospital, as the Boston Bruins organization issues a critical update on his status for the Championship game against Team Canada.

It was announced yesterday that Charlie McAvoy was going to miss the Sweden vs USA game due to an upper-body injury.
Following the game between the two nations, it was revealed that Charlie McAvoy was admitted to the Mass. General Hospital, because he was dealing with an infection from a minor injury.
After this devastating news was reported, it was unclear whether or not he would be able to play in the final game on Thursday vs Team Canada.
However, a recent report from the Boston Bruins organization has confirmed Charlie McAvoy's fate for the Championship game.

Boston Bruins official injury update on star defensemen Charlie McAvoy

The Boston Bruins have shared some unfortunate a news on Charlie McAvoy's status as he will not be playing in Thursday night's game against Team Canada.
"Charlie was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday to undergo testing related to an upper-body injury sustained during the 4 Nations Face-Off and is currently being evaluated by Boston Bruins Head Team Physician Dr. Peter Asnis.

He will not play for Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship Game on Thursday at TD Garden.

The Boston Bruins will provide further updates on his condition and status as soon as they become available."
This is a tough blow for Team USA, as Charlie McAvoy played a big role in the team beating Canada in their first meeting.
According to Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan, Canucks star defenseman Quinn Hughes is en route to join Team USA to replace Charlie McAvoy.
Mike Sullivan said Quinn Hughes is coming to join Team USA
But Hughes will only be eligible to play in the tournament if there is another injury, per Elliotte Friedman.
I'm told another injury is needed for Quinn Hughes to play
Team USA must play all players who originally came into the tournament, similar to the situation that happened with team Canada when they lost defenseman Shea Theodore to an injury and then Cale Makar with illness.
