Many fans and experts within the hockey community are calling to rename the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy to honor Johnny Gaudreau, after the tragic incident.

David Alter suggested it on X that the NHL should rename Lady Byng Trophy after Johnny Gaudreau, and without a doubt the idea gained a lot of attention from players and fans.

The National Hockey League is strong on its history and traditions, the Lady Byng Trophy stands as a symbol of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct, however many players and fan have mixed feelings about the trophy.

"The award is given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability."

Back in 2017, Johnny Gaudreau was honoured as the winner of the Lady Byng Trophy after leading the Calgary Flames in points while recording only two minor penalties.

Remaining the trophy will greatly honour his memory but also help bring more recognition to the award within the hockey community.

Unfortunately when changes like this are proposed, the league never takes them seriously, but with the particular situation it may be different, as the Gaudreau tragedy has greatly impacted the hockey community.
