Montreal Canadiens star Cole Caufield changes his number to honour Johnny Gaudreau
Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Canfield has announced that he has changed his number to honour Johnny Gaudreau.
As the hockey community continues to mourn the tragic loss of Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, many tributes have been surfacing from players across the National Hockey League.
Montreal Canadiens 23-year old forward Cole Caufield stated he's always looked up to Johnny as a teenager, as the two of them have similar qualities.
In a social media post that was just moments ago, Cole Caufield announced that he would be changing from #22 to #13 to honour Johnny Gaudreau. Caufield also revealed that he once wore the number 13 in the past because of Johnny and will now wear it again to honour him.
"The last few years playing as #22 have been some of the best years of my life. It truly has been a dream come true and I will forever hold those memories and that number close to me. I wore #13 at a point in my career because of Johnny and now I will be wearing it again to honor him. He paved the way for smaller players and proved we had a future in this game at the highest level. I will forever be grateful to him for inspiring me and others." Caufield said.
Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau tragically passed away last Thursday after they were struck by a drunk driver while riding their bikes home from their sister's wedding rehearsal.
