Toronto Sun controversial Maple Leafs reporter Steve Simmons feels that the Maple Leafs and the Ducks will likely become trading partners and find a way to send Trouba to the blue and white. Simmons explains that Trouba style of hockey is exactly what the Maple Leafs need to get them over the hump and help go far in the playoffs.
As Craig Berube's system has immersed itself into the Maple Leafs lineup and the team buying into what he is teaching them, a player like Trouba to come along could be the answer the team needs to be more playoff successful.
Over the course of the Mathews Marner era, the Maple Leafs have been notorious at choking when the big moments are present, and the ice begins to shrink due to playoff hockey. Trouba's physicality and style of hockey would be music to Berube's ears.
Many feel that the Ducks would dangle Trouba to teams as general manager Pat Verbeek has been quietly building his team through draft picks and through trades. It's likely the Maple Leafs would require 50% of his salary to be retained by the Ducks to make a deal work.
Trouba also holds a contract of $8 million and has one more year after this season which means salary retention and some money heading back to the Ducks would be required.
It will be fascinating to see what happens to Trouba as it's likely he will not remain on the West Coast and be on the move again with the possibility that the Maple Leafs could be a short list candidate and would occur up to the March trade deadline.
