NHL teams aren't usually placing players on waivers during this part of the season. But the Tampa Bay Lightning aren't just any NHL team lately, as they've been struggling.

One of those players who has been a part of the team was former Stanley Cup champion, with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Conor Sheary.

How the mighty have fallen!

Sheary won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017. Sheary went undrafted at the start of his career in 2015, but would later be signed by the Penguins in 2015.

He's become a journeyman around the league since his two-cup wins, as he's played for the Buffalo Sabres, a return to Pittsburgh, then the Washington Capitals, and arrived in Tampa Bay during 2023-2024.

He'd play 57 games for the Lightning last season, scoring 15 points(4 G, 11 A) with a-3.

This season he'd only play three games before being waived by the Lightning, but the question is who will claim him?

His career year in 2021-2022, saw him score 43 points in Washington scoring(19 G, 24 A) and would leverage that production into another year with the Capitals, and would score 37 points, not at the same clip as before.

Sheary has mainly been a depth-scoring forward during his time in the NHL, and it looks like he may have hit rock bottom.

Of course, not all of his problems in Tampa Bay were to blame as he was out for a significant period of time due to an injury. He's been healthy scratched and obviously, last season hurt his confidence.

With Sheary being placed on waivers, could he find a fresh start with a rebuilding club that needs a winning presence?

Sheary could have value for a team that has playoff experience, and teams like the Flames, Blackhawks, Blue Jackets, and Sharks could benefit.
