The Penguins and Rangers have officially finalized a major trade
GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers have made a great signing today, as they announced they signed former Pittsburgh Penguins forward, and Stanley Cup champion Reilly Smith.
Pittsburgh would receive a conditional fifth round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and 2nd round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft in return for the forward.
Smith scored 40 points( 13 G, 27 A) in 76 games with the Penguins, so a not terrible return for a depth forward, which is exactly what the Rangers needed.
The 33-year old forward, has one more year on his $5 M AAV contract, which he signed with the Vegas Golden Knights in July of 2022.
The Rangers are acquiring Reilly Smith from the Penguins in exchange for a 2nd-round pick and a 5th-round pick, per

Smith was an original part of the Golden Knights crew of misfits which made a cinderella run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2018.
But would achieve their ultimate goal in 2023, winning the Stanley Cup, of which Smith was a casualty.
Smith was selected 69th overall by the Dallas Stars in 2009.
Reilly's career points totals are as follows:
513 points (213 goals, 300 assists) in 840 regular-season games with the Penguins, Golden Knights, Stars, Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers, and 79 points (26 goals, 53 assists) in 106 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He had 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 22 games during the 2023 postseason to help Vegas win the Stanley Cup, including the Cup-clinching goal in Game 5 of the Final against the Panthers.
