The New York Rangers were defeated in the ECF by the Florida Panthers, which they could afford to learn from.

They were two wins shy of a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, but losing is a character-building moment, if you have the humbleness to do so.

Adam Fox said he drew from the Florida Panther's path to the Stanley Cup as a blueprint, and what the Rangers should ideally follow.

«Look at Florida last year they lost in the Cup Final, they learned some things,» Fox said. «Learned about winning those tight games, those 2-1 games, hold a lead and be able to protect a lead late. I think those are things that you build on and gain that confidence going into the next year.»

The Rangers season was memorable, as they secured the President's Trophy, and made a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals under coach Peter Laviolette.

But they couldn't overcome the Panther's hard-nosed style of play and their obvious championship style of hockey.

From start to finish, the Panthers were physically dominant on both ends of the ice.

The Rangers, need to learn from Bill Zito and Paul Maurice's blueprint and design and build a winner to reach the pinnacle of the NHL, a Stanley Cup.

New York has the pieces, but can they hold their own against the defending champions this year?

We'll find out soon enough.
