Brady Tkachuk shocks many as he responds to trade speculation surrounding him and the Rangers
The New York Rangers were accused of tampering by Senators owner Michael Andlauer. This has led to degradation in the relationship between the two clubs. While the Rangers have put the situation in the commissioner's hands, Brady Tkachuk has responded.
The New York Post's Larry Brooks may have unintentionally set off a feud in the NHL to the likes we've never seen. Brooks a respected NHL Insider reported that the New York Rangers were interested in the Ottawa Senators Brady Tkachuk, prior to Jacob Trouba being traded to Anaheim.
This led to Michael Andlauer responding in kind accusing the Rangers of tampering with the Senators Captain Tkachuk. According to Andlauer the idea of trading Tkachuk is a ridiculous idea and they've never discussed the possibility of a move.
Since then Tkachuk has responded with hopes to cool down the situation. He plans on staying with the Senators as long as he possibly can when he spoke to NHL Insider Bruce Garrioch.
Senators insider Bruce Garrioch tells us that Tkachuk says he hadn't even seen the report (which came from Rangers insider Larry Brooks), while adding that he wants to stay in Ottawa and "believes in this group."
It's stuff I can't control so it doesn't really bother me.
It makes sense that Tkachuk would make a statement like this, it is HIS team and he wants to be a part of a successful rebuild, with GM Steve Staios.
He'd dedicated his entire career to the Senators organization and sees no reason to change it. They've upgraded the goaltending, added a new coach, and look to improve their standings in the Atlantic Division.
What's troubling though, is that Larry Brook has doubled down on his rumors, this time on the controversial Spittin' Chiclets Podcast.
"I thought it was a joke when someone told me there was gonna be an investigation," laughed Brooks.
"I had been told earlier last week that Brady Tkachuk was a target of the Rangers. And then I was told a second time. And then I was told by a third party that the Rangers' priority was to try and find a way to get Brady Tkachuk.
"I had heard some talk that there was some sensitivity in Ottawa about whether they were going to be able to keep him."
If what Larry Brooks' says is true, what would the Ottawa Senators get out of trading Brady Tkachuk? The haul would have to be massive and could set the Senators' rebuild back another few years.
While Brooks' feels he's correct about the situation, there needs to be clarity from both sides of the aisle, and not the he said-he said nonsense currently going on.
