It was an eventful last 72 hours for the New York Rangers and general manager Chris Drury has he made a critical decision on waving Barclay Goodrow who was chosen by the San Jose Sharks.

Many pundits and others throughout the league feel that his decision may have damaged his reputation along with the Rangers as it was revealed by 30 two thoughts podcaster and NHL insider Elliotte Friedman that the sharks were on his 15 team no trade list.

"I've heard that one of the reasons he's upset was that he didn't find out until right before he was put on waivers..."

As it's a waiver claim, the Rangers are not obliged to discuss anything with goodrow as any team can choose him during that time. Sharks general manager Mike Grier felt that Goodrow should come back to the team that drafted him and help solidify veteran presence as the team continues its rebuilding phase and adding leadership for Will Smith and incoming draftee Macklin Celebrini.

«San Jose was on his no trade list,» Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said. «That was one of the things that bothered him because there is nothing he can really do about that. The Rangers knew he obviously didn't want to go there

This move by Drury has freed up $3.6 million in cap space over the next three seasons, but it has put players and agents on watch knowing that he can do this move and seems very comfortable in doing this move without any consultation.

It remains to be seen on how players an agents will handle the Rangers going forward after this was done. In the meantime, Drury and his staff are preparing for the draft and unrestricted free agency which will begin on July 1st.
