The New York Rangers pull superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin in the second period, for the first in over a year after letting up 5 goals on 12 shots against the Buffalo Sabres, leaving many questioning if a deal should happen soon?
There has been penalty of talk regarding a contract negotiation for Igor Shesterkin ever since NHL insider Kevin Weekes revealed that Shesterkin declined a $88 million dollar contract extension that carried an AAV of $11 million.
A deal that would forever change the market for all goaltenders, along with making Shesterkin the highest paid goalie ever in NHL history.
However, all this talk regarding a contract negotiation seems to be getting to Shesterkin mentally. As the Rangers needed to pull Shesterkin during the second period after letting in five goals on only 12 shots against the Buffalo Sabres:
In my opinion, I believe this doesn't prove anything considering how solid Shesterkin has been for the New York Rangers so far this season, and from time to time players are expected to have an embarrassing game. But the Rangers wasted no time and putting Jonathan Quick in nets, making this the first time Shesterkin has been pulled in over a year:
Definitely a rough night for Shesterkin, but hopefully he can bounce back from this loss and not let it bother him too much mentally. Considering coming into Thursday nights game Shesterkin is 6-2-1 with a 2.12 GAA and .933 SV%, proving he's still worth a record breaking contract.
