They definitely needed to work for this win, and the main reason they won was because of the backbone of this team, Igor Shesterkin.
Shesterkin stopped 26 of 27 shots that he faced, for a save percentage of .963. But that doesn't tell the whole story.
Unfortunately, the team around him kept getting penalized for a myriad of reasons. Penalties for roughing, misconduct, interferences, even Igor got called for a penalty for leaving the crease.
The lack of discipline led to so many power plays for the Coyotes. There was a full two minutes power play of 5 on 3 against the Rangers.
Anytime the Blueshirts would gain momentum, it would be stripped away from a whistle, and back to the penalty kill.
But Shesterkin answered the call every time, killing 4 out of 5 power plays for the Coyotes, including a beauty of a save against a penalty shot that could have tied the game, late in the third.
A scuffle did break out in the end of the game, seemingly started when Igor went after Matt Dumba of the Coyotes.
Here's the full scuffle.
It's unknown as to why Igor did this. Regardless, he came to show up, and was the reason why the Rangers escaped with a win last night.
