Former Rangers Matthew Barnaby shares his unfiltered frustrations on the struggling Rangers squad
TheNew York Rangers are 16-16-1 and the team's chaos has caused friction with some veterans who hold the team to high standards. One of those is former Ranger forward, Matthew Barnaby.
Barnaby, follows in veteran Sean Avery's footsteps, as he came out of the woodwork to criticize the team.
The team led by Peter Laviolette has seen offensive and defensive woes, and the inability to close neutralize opponents, like the Nashville Predators. One of the NHL's worst teams this season.
Now, it looks like they could end up joining them soon, with a record of 16-16-1 and 6th in the Metro.
He joined the Snipes and Stripes Podcast, which is hosted by Hall of Famer Jeremy Roenick, and disgraced referee Tim Peel.
Barnaby voiced his frustrations.
"I had New York contending for a f***ing Cup," said a fired up Barnaby.
Instead of blaming the players alone, he'd blame GM Chris Drury and Head Coach Peter Laviolette for the terrible product on the ice.
"Either it's Drury or Laviolette, I don't know which one, but I watch enough Rangers games to know that they are f***ing putrid," said Barnaby.
Barnaby wouldn't hold back, as James Dolan caught some criticism from the veteran Ranger too. He doesn't feel confident in Dolan's ability to construct a winning-team, and given their current situation he may not be wrong.
He feels Dolan shouldn't be interfering in the decisions made regarding the Rangers.
"I wouldn't pay James dolan $50 a week to walk my dog," said Barnaby.
Do you think Matthew Barnaby was wrong about the current situation with the Rangers ownership, and front-office?
These criticisms could be construed as harsh, and unforgiving but with a team advertised as Cup contenders, and the product on the ice contradicting that narrative, it's hard to be upset.
It's hard not to disagree with Barnaby, as it felt like during the offseason, GM Chris Drury wouldn't make the effort to build a team worthy of dethroning the former Stanley Cup champions.
The team lacks heart, and the ability to play a full 60-minutes against the toughest opponents in the league.
