Igor Shesterkin was arguably the Rangers best player during their 2024 playoff run, as he posted an impressive 2.28 GAA and an outstanding .927 save percentage despite their losing effort.
Shesterkin is eligible to become an unrestricted free gent at the end of next season and his camp is looking to secure a massive extension from the Rangers. Now there hasn't been many details leaked of what the negotiations look like but the Vezina Trophy winning goalie did reveal that contract negotiations have started.
The 28-year old, is looking to secure a deal worth more than Artemi Panarin's $11,642.857 a year salary to become the Rangers highest paid player. Recent reports from Mollie Walker of The New York Post, suggest Shesterkin's camp could be looking for $12M AAV on his next contract.
Shesterkin's next deal could be recorded breaking for his position, as Carey Price's eight-year deal with Montreal carried a AAV of $10.5 million, for a total of $84 million, while Andrei Vasilevskiy's current contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning has a cap hit worth $9.5 million and a total value of $76 million.
However, the New York Rangers are not afraid to allocate that large amount of money into the goaltending position, as they signed former legend Henrik Lundqvist to a seven-year deal with a AAV worth $8.5 million, for a total of $59.5 million, back in 2013.
