The 28-year old superstar is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season and will be eligible to start negotiating an extension on July 1st.
According to recent reports from Mollie Walker of the The York Post, Shesterkin's camp will be aiming for a contract as high as $12 million a year, which would make him the paid goalie in the NHL.
Regardless if Shesterkin gets paid exactly $12 million or not, he will most likely receive a contract between on the upwards side of $10 million. With that being said the Rangers better Shesterkin continues to progress over the years.
However, the Rangers have their hands tied as it's super risky to dish out over $10 million a year to a goaltender who is approaching the age of 30. But with Shesterkin being such a crucial member of making the Rangers a Stanley Cup contender it's tough to not give him what he wants.
This leaves the Rangers in a tough position as Shesterkin's extension probably won't look so good down the road, and if they don't give him what he wants they risk the chance of him walking away from the team.
