It's confirmed: NHL Veteran is officially done with the league after 11-seasons
It is now confirmed that Evgeny Kuznetsov's time with Hurricanes and the NHL has officially come to an end.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, the Carolina Hurricanes will be placing Kuznetsov on unconditional waivers to terminate the remaining year of his contract.
By terminating Evgeny Kuznetsov's contract, it will significantly help the Washington Capitals clear some cap space, as they remain 50% of his remaining salary and will now clear a much needed $3.9 million in cap space.
"Hearing Evgeny Kuznetsov will be placed on unconditional waivers today for purposes of a mutual contract termination.
Both #Canes and #Caps are now free of Kuznetsov's cap hit and contract. He is walking away from final $6 million owed in salary this season to return to Russia." Seravalli said.
It was then later confirmed by the Carolina Hurricanes:
"Ultimately both sides agreed this was the best course of action for both the player and the team."
More on the #Canes placing forward Evgeny Kuznetsov on unconditional waivers.
Kuznetsov being placed on unconditional waivers for contract termination confirms a report that came out earlier this week that suggested that he'll be signing a four-year contract with KHL club SKA St. Petersburg.
"Per championat.com Evgeni Kuznetsov is set to sign a 4-year contract with SKA as soon as he terminates his agreement with the Hurricanes #CauseChaos #Canes."
The 32-year old played 11 seasons the National Hockey League with the Capitals and Hurricanes, tallied a total of 575 points (173 goals, 402 assists) and 394 penalty minutes throughout 743 games.
